Mission Statement, 25-jan-2012
Now that I am @ age 57, there are a lot of contemplations that I have to make. First as a person that was born in Groningen almost 58 years ago, I am writing his Mission Statement in English. The question is why? It is probably because some marketing specialist convinced me that about 400 Million people speak English as their mother tongue. So the statement is: ‘in order to prevent misunderstanding, this Mission Statement is written in English’.

I committed to add some technology transfer to this statement. This morning I saw that Apple, Inc published a Net Profit of over 13 Billion US $ over the past book year (2011). The funny thing is, I remember that Apple almost went Chapter 11 a few years ago. The financial problems of Apple were so acute that Microsoft had to buy a significant share in Apple, Inc. in order to prevent Apple from going bankrupt. I think this was around 2001 or so. In 2001 I still had a steady job, although my mortgage was huge.

Back then I made some extra money (besides my regular job)supporting the customers of ARSAP, which had been bought by a small US based company called CIMS Lab, Inc. ARSAP runs on OpenVMS, an Operating System now owned by Hewlett-Packard and UNIX, an operating system credited to Berkeley University. CIMS Lab was the evolution of a company called BMS Computer that had developed an accounting solution for large IBM computers, called mainframes.

In 2002 I was fired from my regular job, because my employer (CMG Telecommunications and Utilities BV) needed to cut 700 out of 800 jobs. Due to unexpected financial losses after the burst of the first Internet bubble in that period. I was not too worried though, because I was still making some money with the CIMS and ARSAP products. However my contract with CIMS Lab was cancelled in August 2004. I used some of our family’s last money paying a lawyer fighting the cancellation. January 26 it became clear that IBM, one of the largest information technology vendors of the world had acquired CIMS, in order to integrate it with its portfolio of Tivoli Products.

Now, our mission remains: to make a living for my family. Our youngest son is almos 17 now and he is beginning to understand what life is all about.
